Courtney David “The Revival”

This recent addition to Urban Uptown Records to the Hindsight Records Label group has opened up the possibilities to brave new music. The first artist on this new label is Courtney David and his new album “The Revival.”

His love affair with music began shortly after he accepted Christ as my Lord and Savior in 1998, at a church called Faith Christian Center in Phoenix, Arizona. Each year, his church participated in youth camp with all satellite churches throughout the country each year for a week of praise, worship and fellowship.

He became a member of a rap group and step team called “Ready Soldiers”. His youth minister who led him to Christ was Minister David Blouin. Minister Blouin would vet all of our raps to make sure everything was based in scripture. This experience changed his outlook about church.

In the summer of 1999, our family moved to the metro Detroit area where the main church Word of Faith is located. He served in the sound department and found a group of friends who became the second rap group, known as 6T20 Soldiers. He moved back to Arizona and fell away from God.

In 2002, he had his first secular experience with music at the Celebrity Theatre. It was here that he became his best friend Will's "hype man" on a song that was on a Keri Strong Gospel project. Soon thereafter, we started an open mic night in Phoenix that spanned 5 years strong. He soon learned the ups and downs of free styling and testing new material before a live audience. There’s an art to reading a crowd in order to navigate in a manner that will hold their attention.

This led him to become a member of a group of artists and producers in Phoenix known as the “Man Up Squad.” He hosted the main urban clubs in and around Phoenix and was also listed as an Arizona artist for Phoenix’s annual MLK celebration. Up until this point this seemed huge until the desire changed. He started to want fame and to be great, but it all ended in him falling into shame. (Luke 15T11-32). He took his gift and placed it at the alter of the Most High God. He rededicated his life and made God his firm foundation.

When he relocated back to Detroit, God spoke to him and revived the desire to write music again. This time it was honest and surrendered. On 09/09/2018, his Pastor Andre Butler launched Faith Xperience Church in Downtown Detroit and he went back to his first love, serving. Currently, he serves in the audio department and shares his gift in hip hop music on our praise team each Sunday. This time it isn’t about him. He’s just a sinner saved by grace through faith, a chosen/surrendered vessel. He prays that his music is effective in ushering in people of all kind to Gods Kingdom through Jesus Christ.
