About Us
Welcome to one of the largest Bebop and Big Band catalogs in North America. At Hindsight Records, we restore, maintain and manage a vast catalog of not only some of the greatest jazz recordings of all time but we also have the pleasure of giving that same “kid gloves’ treatment with some more contemporary artists and an awe-inspiring mass of some of the greatest classical works of our time.
The largest contributor to this massive collection was a pioneer in audio capture and replication in the heyday of big bands. Wally Heider started his career in music blasting the Bari Sax in the vast Jantzen Beach Ballroom as part of the Ted Hallock Orchestra but soon made his name with his “Three Mic” technique that has captured the excitement and spontaneity of the club scene that we have the pleasure of sharing 70 years later!
In addition to our active catalog is a collection of physical masters on an array of media types just waiting to be rediscovered from Mel Torme on Umatic to Dudley Moore on Mini Disk not to mention the bulk of our physical collection living on ¼” magnetic tape.
Transferring this massive collection to a digital format requires vintage equipment. The maintenance, use and repair of this equipment coupled with our unique and advantageous location does require our staff to be competent and confident in the operation of this equipment.
Not only are we subject matter experts in vintage audio equipment by proxy, but the staff at Hindsight Records are also closely working with a rich American history in the arts that is constantly at risk of vanishing over time. Here at Hindsight Records, we are committed to preserving this rich history in a digital format to ensure its longevity, refusing to let the greats like Rosemary Clooney, Barbera Fairchild and Duke Ellington to vanish into the sands of time.
All The Best,
Thomas Gramuglia
