The Roaring Twenties
The nomenclature given to the period of time directly before the Great Depression that saw a great amount of prosperity for the United States. Cultural Change was happening, Jazz was in, and fashion gained a whole new look.
The United States wasn’t alone in this as major cities all throughout the world found themselves in a Social Renaissance. From London to Los Angeles, flappers, jazz, art deco and the like could be found. It was such a time of social upheaval that even in France they called the decade années folles ('crazy years') s. wikipedia.
Advancements in technology brought a brand new sense to the word ‘modern’ - long ago are the days of horse and buggies, player pianos, Tin Pan Alley; bring in the automobiles, motion pictures, and radio.
Irving Berlin was cutting his teeth as one of the most prominent composers of the time shaping a way of looking at his instrument the piano, creating a brand new version of the classic piano-forte, wherein a lever was designed to shift the key of the notes without having to change the keys played on the instrument - allowing Irvin to simply jump between keys and scales, transposing to his hearts content, and keeping all the sounds fresh.
This release pays homage to that period of time, the social reverence, and immense amount of innovation whether it was sonically, cultural, or by way of invention - truly the Roaring Twenties is a time to behold.
